Art + Feminism

Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female.
While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not. It represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.

Mathilde ter Heijne hosts the special edit-a-thon in collaboration with ƒƒ. This is an extension of an event held on March 6th, 2016 at Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Education and Research Building in MOMA.

IT WILL BE!

It Will Be! is a project conceptualized by artist Mathilde der Heijne in conjunction with professional textile artists and designers, as well as diverse handicraft groups from different social, political, religious, and cultural contexts. Its presentation at Haus am Lützowplatz (the oldest artist association in Berlin) is organized together with Mama Afrika e.V and is an extension of Mathilde ter Heijne’s project Olacak! (Istanbul 2010) and It Will Be! (Museum für Neue Kunst, Freiburg 2014).

Atopia: Migration, Heritage and Placelessness

Atopia: Works from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Collection is an ambitious exhibition developed in collaboration with the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá, Colombia. „Atopia,“ a word mainly used in medicine and philosophy, literally means placelessness, out of place, unclassifiable and of high originality. The exhibition focuses on the practices and representations of the ways in which artists have accessed, rehearsed, participated in and negotiated concepts of “place” or “place of origin,” their past, heritage, and cultural ambiguities, with all the dilemmas such notions provoke. The project Woman to Go will be featured.

MIGROS Museum

Titled Momentary Monuments, the new installment of Collection on Display scheduled to open in February 2016 will present works that examine the significance and function of monuments for a larger exploration of memory and forgetting. In the perspective of art history, the evolution of sculpture is closely intertwined with that of monument culture. Effigies of rulers, equestrian statues, and monuments always reflect the tastes, worldviews, and designs of the powerful patrons who commissioned them. Yet they also illustrate contemporary developments in the discourse of art. Monuments served—and still serve—to propagate the prevailing ideas of their time and visualize the interpretation of events and personalities the ruling élites hope to enshrine in history books and collective memory. In contemporary art, the idea of the monument has become a focal point for artists’ engagement with the question of who determines how history is written and the representation of power in the public arena. The exhibition Momentary Monuments combines works from the collection familiar to our regular visitors with others that have rarely been on view and several new acquisitions that will make their début in Zurich.

Art & Anthropology. Ethnographische Bezüge in der zeitgenössischen Kunst

The exhibition pairs artists together who use ethnographic tactics to decode images of Otherness and find strategies for co-habitation, togetherness, and community: states of being so paramount in our modern times. Showing alternative perspectives, dialogues from the so-called „Other,“ the artists employ various media from film, photography, installation, and object installments. The works lead us from the terrains of Mexico, Argentina or Namibia, and with this travel, the artists open up a space of poetic possibility.

Secret Agent is a group exhibition composed from the viewpoint of feminist authorship in contemporary art practices.
