In the work of Dutch artist Mathilde ter Heijne, doubles assume a key role.
Using plaster casts of her face and hands, ter Heijne makes life-size dummies of her own image. These dummies then make appearances in her installations, sculptures, audio and video works, making it possible for the artist to take part in artistic disquisitions on such topics as pain and violence. They are also featured in the context of research on matriarchy and dream therapy.
