TROUBLE DIARIES: A POLITICAL STATEMENT
The series of “Trouble Diaries” brings into account another perspective in the way in which artists employ strategies of performance while also appropriating traditional genres, to reveal how the female body becomes a political subject when exposed as a critical weapon. The core concept for these artists, whose work centers on the body, can be traced to Judith Butler who declared that gender is a cultural construct. Your body does not belong to oneself, but is subject to public scrutiny, and your personal diary becomes part of a public agenda. Curated by: Dermis P. León.

Sans papiers – Das Leben ist eine Reise
Das Kunstprojekt sans papiers – Das Leben ist eine Reise hat einen transdisziplinären Charakter und arbeitet mit Protagonist_innen zusammen, die auf unterschiedlichsten Ebenen eigene Erfahrungen mit dem Thema Migration und Flucht, mit „sans-papiers“ (also mit Menschen ohne Status und ohne offizielle Papiere und Dokumente) gemacht haben. Sans papiers, Teil 3.3 schafft Begegnungen, ermöglicht Zusammenarbeit und Austausch, setzt sich mit Möglichkeiten eines gesellschaftsverändernden Prozesses auseinander, stößt politische Debatten an, mit dem Ziel, die Aufteilung in «sie» und «wir» zu überwinden. Es entwickelt Strukturen zur Aneignung von Raum und Platz, Aneignung von gesellschaftlichen und künstlerischen Möglichkeiten und Aneignung von Strategien des Überlebens an einem neuen Ort. Do you remember? zeigt vier internationale bildende Künstler_innen aus Berlin. Sie sind nach Helsinki gereist, um sich mit dem finnischen Nationalepos Kalevala zu beschäftigen, dessen Verse Elias Lönnrot 1835 erstmalig veröffentlichte. Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez, Oliver Godow, Mathilde ter Heijne und Jorinde Voigt sind in die Welt des Kalevala eingetaucht, um Gedanken und Fragen zu Mythos, Erinnerung, Gedächtnis und einem Wir ästhetisch neu zu formulieren. Neue visuelle Arbeiten beschäftigen sich mit Interpretation und Reaktion auf die mündlich überlieferte finnische Mythologie, die in Versform und Klang einzigartig ist.

Atopia: Migration, Heritage, and Placelessnes
Works from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Collection.
The exhibition focuses on the practices and representations of the ways in which artists have accessed, rehearsed, participated in and negotiated concepts of “place” or “place of origin,” their past, heritage, and cultural ambiguities, with all the dilemmas such notions provoke. Origin / locality is not a neutral point of reference. What seems to be just a geographic denotation, comes with an apparatus of definitions and is grounded in systems of authority. Geography and place-bound symbolisms incorporates a (very rigid) signifying system through which individuals and collectives register and express their identities.

89 NOCHES / DECOLONIZING SEXUALITY AND DARKNESS
International group exhibition that examines the multiple relationships between sexuality and darkness within the neoliberal world of permanent lighting. Through the various works and curatorial strategies, 89 Nights aims to show how modernity / coloniality has held dichotomies – such as light and dark, black and white, masculine and feminine, and provided a basis for establishing a hierarchy between these, about sexuality, gender, ‚race‘ and class. Curated by Carolina Chacon and Stephanie Noach.
Through a series of artistic projects 89 Nights explores how the gloom, the absence of light and night, challenging sexual and social conventions lit environment, and how they have offered land for imaginary play on historically hidden and marked sexual behavior. Instead of focusing on the bad and dark surrounding darkness, the exhibition suggests that the dark offers opportunities resistance and liberation. Exploring these subversive potential, 89 Nights problematize the ways in which understood the darkness within modernity ally of violence, viciousness and barbarism. Therefore, the project asks how the legacies of colonial modernity have influenced speeches about darkness, „race“, gender and sexuality in the Global South, specifically Latin America.

For 36 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran was isolated with regard to foreign policy and was subject to a trade embargo. After the sanctions against Tehran were lifted in spring 2016, hope is growing that the barriers for a cultural exchange between Iran and the West will decrease and that cultural life will renew. The project <em>Copy/Paste</em> examines the artistic use of the ubiquitous “copy / paste culture”. The analysis of the phenomenon of duplication / copy is rooted deeply in both cultures: European art discourse is based on the concept of the aura of a work of art, in other words: its uniqueness, whereas Middle Eastern Cultures consider religious-spiritual notions of the sign’s efficacy through the Ornamental. In the digital and the global age, the phenomena of reproduction have accelerated and intensified. In their artistic works, the participants of the <em>Copy/Paste </em>project are addressing the phenomenon of “copy/ paste” in the cultural, ecological, economic, identity- and media-related fields. Karlheinz Stockhausen’s musical theatre work<em> Originale</em> (Originals, or „Real People“) , composed in 1961 during a trip to Finnland, is closely related to the history of the Fluxus movement. It was<i></i><b><i> </i></b>written in collaboration with the artist Mary Bauermeister and was first performed in 1961 in Cologne. In Originale Stockhause combined his electric acoustic composition KONTAKTE with an happening and eventscore and the specification to make a theater of non-representation, in which the participants perform ‚themselves‘.

‚Community-Based‘ presents a series of long-term, socially-engaged projects realised by artists and other cultural workers, specifically located in Berlin. Immediately prior to the opening reception, the artist Mathilde ter Heijne will speak on her work in Decad’s Hinterhaus lecture space. Ter Heijne is one of the primary six artists to be included in ‚Community-Based‘. Her artist talk will begin at 18:00. The reception is scheduled to run from 19:00 to 22:00.

For the finnissage of Mathilde ter Heijne’s exhibition at Körnerpark, Berlin Blood Sweat and Tears, a symposium will take place from September 1st to 4th assembling different theoreticians and practitioners to discuss the topic of conflict resolution using Bracha Ettinger’s matrixial gaze
as a point of departure. Three speakers will speak Thursday September 1st: Ewa Majewska on weak resistance, Olga Lewicka on the politics of mothering, and Katia Krupennikova on confusion and sensitivity of Post-Peace era.

While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not. It represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.
Mathilde ter Heijne hosts the special edit-a-thon in collaboration with ƒƒ. This is an extension of an event held on March 6th, 2016 at Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Education and Research Building in MOMA.

It Will Be! is a project conceptualized by artist Mathilde der Heijne in conjunction with professional textile artists and designers, as well as diverse handicraft groups from different social, political, religious, and cultural contexts. Its presentation at Haus am Lützowplatz (the oldest artist association in Berlin) is organized together with Mama Afrika e.V and is an extension of Mathilde ter Heijne’s project Olacak! (Istanbul 2010) and It Will Be! (Museum für Neue Kunst, Freiburg 2014).
